Rathven market is one of the North of Scotland’s largest stand alone funfairs if not the largest. Every year outside Buckie a large fair builds on the field beside the Road. The fair has everything to offer from the latest high octane thrill rides to the gentle amusements for the younger riders and a great variety of Side shows and catering to provide something for everyone!
According to local historians, the "St Peters Fair" at Rathven began in 1686!! It was a Sheep, cattle & horse trading fair to begin with coinciding with the local tradesmen’s holidays in July. Original ground was next to church in Rathven. Now ihas Evolved into a three day spectacular organized by John Anthony Cowley and Edward Percival Snr.
A Big Thanks goes to Colin Reid and John Marshall for their help in this feature!!!!
This years Rathven market runs from the 22nd of July to the 24th so make sure you dont miss it!!!! |
